SUMMARY:Corporate Governance and Risk Readiness and Resilience Assessment
DESCRIPTION:A corporate Governance training workshop on the above theme was organised to build the capacity of risk managers. The training was held between Nov. 15 and 16 2016 and was well attended. The training was designed based on the observed relevance of the theme to today’s business environment which is tough\, turbulent and complex. The key questions are how risk ready and resilient is your organization?  This training was developed to provide the leading trends in risk management and the role of directors in ensuring sound risk management and to demonstrate how to successfully carry out robust risk assessment exercises using leading practices methodology and software. Participants were provided with practical case scenarios and studies\, risk identification\, assessment and prioritisation\, mitigation and measurement amongst other risk gems. \nThe keynote and a panel/advocacy session were organized to precede the training course. The keynote speaker was Mrs Funmi Oyetunji\, a Director at Ecobank Nigeria Plc & Chair\, Ecobank Risk Management Committee. \nIn her paper\, she asserted that risks are not negative\, though they connote negativity in many manners\, once you master the management\, it becomes a friend. Risk is inherent in all we do and for instance\, there is counterparty risk in marriage. The link between corporate governance\, enterprise risk management and corporate value is important to create value. Past corporate failure shows corporate governance is vital to the health of organisations and the economy by extension. Risk management is not going to be robust without good corporate governance. The global financial crisis in 2008 shows boards have a difficult task in identifying risks.  However\, a critical role for the board is to identify risk\, not to discourage innovation and ideas. \nThe panellists were Mr Tunji Oyebanji\, CEO\, ExxonMobil Nigeria; Omosalewa Fajobi International Finance Corporation (IFC); Aigbe Olotu\, Executive Director\,  Ikeja Disco and Ademola Adebisi Executive Director\, Wema Bank  PLC. \nFacilitators at the Training sessions were the Executive Director of IoDCCG\, Dr Nechi Ezeako; Mr Rob Newsome\, Platinumedge Consulting\, Mrs Bukky Meshida Adefope\,  Humphrey Okorie\, CEO\, Institute of Internal Auditors\, Nigeria\, Sally Okey-Umahi\,  Director\, Platinumedge Consulting.

SUMMARY:Board Evaluation Capacity Building Workshop (Collaboration with the International Finance Corporation)
DESCRIPTION:This training was designed to examine in detail the fundamental issues underpinning evaluation exercise and the critical performance factors that determine a successful Board evaluation. The training was designed and taught by IFC and hosted by IoDCCG based on the observation of a capacity gap in Board evaluation especially given that most companies in Nigeria have started to conduct some form of Board Evaluation\, which comes from the emphasis placed on the performance of Board by the applicable codes of corporate governance. \n  \nThe training was based on IFC’s Corporate Governance Assessment Methodology. In addition to presentations by IFC’s Corporate Governance professionals\, case studies and hypothetical scenarios were used extensively throughout the course. The Facilitators were: Chinyere Almona and Rose Lumumba. The Module covered include: Board Evaluation concept\, History\, international standard and types; planning and managing the Board evaluation process; Chairman and CEO evaluations\, post board evaluation considerations and practice sessions.
